Foundation Directors
The Foundation’s Board of Directors are charged with the responsibility of managing the business and affairs of the Foundation.This includes the assessment of all applications for funding.
The Directors of the Board bring with them an extensive range of qualifications, experience and interests. Representation comes from the fields of finance, the arts, health, medicine and science. We are proud of and indebted to our Foundation Directors for their invaluable voluntary contributions to the operation of the Foundation.

| Prof John Funder AO John was born in Adelaide and educated at Melbourne University. He has been President of the Australian Society for Medical Research (1979) and the Endocrine Society of Australia (1984), and chairman of the International Society for Endocrinology (1996-2000). In 1990 he resigned as a Senior Principal Research Fellow of the National Health and Medical Research Council to become Director of the Baker Medical Research Institute (1990-2001). Currently he is a Senior Fellow at Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research at Monash Medical Centre, and a Professorial Fellow at the Centre for Neuroscience at University of Melbourne, and divides his time between a series of scientific collaborations, consulting to academia and consulting for the pharmaceutical and philanthropic sectors. He has chaired reviews of research institutes in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Canberra and Auckland. He is a member of the Board of the Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation and of the Royal Women’s Hospital.

He chairs SANE Australia (1977-), The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (1977-2004), and HARP (Hospital Admission Risk Program) for the Victorian Government (2001-). He has published over 500 papers, and is on the Editorial Board of twelve international journals.
He was the first non North American to be elected to Council of the Endocrine Society, and is currently a member of the Endocrine Society Nominating Committee, chairs the International Relations Committee, and is an Editor of Endocrinology. He has been an invited speaker at the International Congress of Endocrinology, the International Congress of Clinical Chemistry, the International Society for Hypertension, the International Society for Cardiovascular Endocrinology and at national meetings of the Australian, American, British, Italian, Japanese, Argentinian , Brazilian and Turkish Endocrine Societies.
John joined the board in August 2005.

| Sr Helen Monkivitch RSM AO Helen is a member of the Melbourne Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy. She is Director of Leadership and Mission Mercy Health & Aged Care She has had a distinguished career in health administration, which spans over 20 years and has a wealth of experience in health and aged care, mission and ethics. From 1994 – 2000, Helen served in leadership for her Congregation as a member of the Congregation Leadership Team. In this capacity, she played an integral part in the formation of Mercy Health and Aged Care Victoria – a structure formed to govern what has become ten dynamic health and aged care facilities, positioned to serve communities of both Melbourne and rural Victoria

In addition to her current role as Director of Leadership and Mission for Mercy Health and Aged Care Victoria, Helen is a member of the Stewardship Board for CHA and Chair of the Education and Formation Committee, a member of the Governing Boards of Mercy Health and Aged Care Inc., St Vincents & Mercy Private Hospital Ltd., Caroline Chisholm Centre for Health Ethics, and was a member of the Board of Directors of LCM Health Care until November 2006.
Helen has a Masters in Health Planning from the University of New South Wales, a Bachelor of Arts from Swinburne Institute and a Diploma in Nursing from Lincoln Institute.
In the Queen’s Birthday 2006 Honours List Helen was appointed an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia for “Service to the community particularly through the establishment of major health, aged and palliative care facilities in Victoria, and to the Catholic Church.”
Helen joined the board in February 2007.

| Luke Littlefield Luke is the Mitchell Communication Group's Chief Operating Officer, a position he has held since December 2007. A chartered accountant by way of training, Luke has over sixteen years experience in accounting, finance and the management of wholesale and retail business operations. In particular, Luke has over 7 years experience in running the operations of publicly listed companies including but not limited to: strategy, developing and implementing best practice systems and processes; leading, negotiating and implementing mergers and acquisitions; leading major client and supplier contract negotiations; driving functional and business restructures; and conducting investor relations. Prior to joining Mitchells, Luke worked for IWL, Pacific Dunlop and KPMG. Luke is member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management. Luke joined the board in April 2007.

| Mary Delahunty Mary has a passionate commitment and a strong record of participation in civic affairs, as a Minster in the Victorian Parliament from 1999 to 2006 and member for Northcote from 1998 to December 2006. Her Parliamentary responsibilities included Minister for Education, Minister for the Arts, Minister Responsible for the Centenary of Federation, Minister for Planning, Minister responsible for Eureka 150th Celebrations 2004, Minister for Women's Affairs, member of the Parliamentary Law Reform and Committee member of the Child Family Care Network Task Force Mary Delahunty's public life has included roles as Victorian convenor, foundation member and life member of the Australian Republic Movement, delegate to the People's Convention on the Republic, member of the Constitutional Centenary Foundation, governor of the Dromkeen Children's Literature Collection and a foundation member of Australia's EMILY's List, which aims to increase the representation of women in Parliament.

Prior to entering Parliament, Mary Delahunty established a prominent career in television news, current affairs and the arts and reported nationally and internationally for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and commercial television, producing numerous documentaries and anchoring live television broadcasts. Mary was best known for presenting ABC TV news and current affairs programs, the 7.30 Report and Four Corners. She received Australia's most prestigious award in journalism, a Gold Walkley, for her international Four Corners work. Mary also hosted the ABC's national arts program, Sunday Afternoon.
Immediately before entering politics, Mary was Managing Director of her own media consultancy company.
Mary joined the board in April 2007.
