Dr Jefitha Karimurio is a researcher at Melbourne University’s Centre for Eye Research Australia and Department of Ophthalmology.
The Harold Mitchell Health Fellowship allowed him to attend the Ninth General Assembly of the International Agency for Prevention of Avoidable Blindness (IAPB) in Hyderabad, India, where he presented a paper on trachoma research.
After the IAPB General Assembly, he attended a two day ISGEO Congress, where he participated in scientific sessions and discussions with experts in the field of ophthalmic epidemiology. Special emphasis was given to prevention of blindness in developing nations (Africa included).
“This was very appropriate to me given that my PhD research project was on development of effective trachoma epidemiological survey methods.”
