Dr Ratana Lim works in obstetrics and gynaecology at Melbourne University and the Mercy Hospital for Women. She is currently researching the mechanisms that may be involved in pre-term birth in an effort to help reduce the incidence and adverse consequences of premature delivery.
The Harold Mitchell Health Fellowship allowed her to attend the 2012 Australian and New Zealand Placenta Research Association (ANZPRA) Satellite in the Gold Coast and the International Federation of Placenta Associations (IFPA) Meeting in Hiroshima, Japan. Ratana gave an oral presentation of her work and met leaders in the field.
“By presenting my work at the conference, I was able to show others in my field that my laboratory is contributing valuable knowledge,” says Ratana. “Also, I was exposed to other studies and techniques, giving me ideas to apply to my own research.”
